I met Soror Erica when we did The Calendar Girl Pageant sponsored by The Ivy Cultural and Educational Fund in 2000. Her daughter, Soror Katrina Washington Bryant and my niece Atiya Burns were contestants. We immediately bonded because we had many things in common: we both were one of six children, we have relatives near Greensboro, North Carolina, our husbands were Greeks--hers, Phi Beta Sigma, mine Alpha Phi Alpha, we both were initiated into Gamma Theta Chapter, Hampton University --although I was ten years her senior and we were Capricorns. I encouraged her to become active with Omega Omega Chapter and she hit the ground running. By last count, I know she was active in twelve committees--Archives, Bridges, Bylaws, Calendar Girl, Connections, Ivy Leaf Reporter, Luncheon and Fashion Show, Membership, Pan Hellenic, and Zodiac Chairman (Capricorn co-chairman). She succeeded me as Ivy Leaf Reporter and served for two terms. I also sponsored her in the Suburban Branch of The National Association of University Women. We were very close and did a lot of things together socially with our families.(She was the person who discovered my granddaughter's profile in a brochure of The Franklin Institute about children loving science and called me so excited telling me about it at the AAA store.). Soror Erica was very smart, organized, thorough, kind and always willing to help out. Her passing has made me very sad like I have lost another sibling, but I submit to the will of God and trust Him for comfort.
Rest in peace my dear soror.
